As a Professor of English and Film Studies at Centenary College of Louisiana, I teach and write about the intersection of modern American culture and progressive politics.  I am also involved in advising the Centenary Film Society and the Kappa Epsilon chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society.  Here are some questions and answers for my students.

My classes include English 101 (the First-Year Experience sequence at Centenary, entitled "Forbidden Knowledge"), a variety of Film and Literature classes, Literary and Cultural theory, and, in the Centenary MBA program, Professional Communications.

A vita gives a view of my professional life. My avocations are few but focused--books, film, sports, and travel--and some of my favorite sites reveal a bit about my weblife.

My special interest is the Spanish Civil War (1936-39) and its significance as a site of international resistance to the rise of Fascism. To find out about an organization committed to preserving and interpreting the significance of the American involvement in Spain, check out the Abraham Lincoln Brigade Archives  home page.    Some of my work in this field, in conjunction with Cary Nelson of the University of Illinois, includes Madrid 1937: Letters of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade From the Spanish Civil War (Routledge, 1996) and Edwin Rolfe:  Collected Poems  (U. of Illinois Press, 1993).
