You will produce four major online projects in the course of the semester. See the schedule for details. All will be submitted as web pages. The first project is designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of web authoring, and to establish a basis for later projects. Late projects are marked down one letter grade for every day late. All projects must be submitted to pass the course. Combined, these projects account for 50% of your final grade.
Quizzes will be given periodically to check your close reading skills. This quizzes will be short answer questions on the texts being read at that time. Exams will be comprised of short answer and essay questions. Everything we talk about in class is fair game for exams and all exams are cumulative, though the emphasis is always on the most recent material studied in class. Together, the exams account for 10% of your final grade. Quizzes comprise another 10%.
The final exam will be cumulative–that is, it will reflect all the material covered in the course. Consisting of essay questions, the final exam constitutes 10% of your final grade.
Extensive critical engagement is crucial to your success in this course. This engagement includes contributions to in-class discussions (this includes both verbal discussions and discussions conducted in the class's online forum), as well as participation in group assignments. Do not expect a good grade in this class if you are not prepared to discuss the readings and participate fully in collaborative assignments. Class participation accounts for 20% of your final grade.
Opportunities for extra credit will be assigned at the instructor's discretion.
