Netscape 4.x is fundamentally and irredeemably broken. This site does not display
or function correctly in Netscape versions prior to 6, despite the fact that
every page in this site adheres strictly to the World Wide Web Consortium's
HTML 4.01 specification.
Netscape versions 4.x and below are not standards-compliant; this noncompliance
is the source of the problems that Netscape users will experience with this
site. I recommend that current users of Netscape 4.x or below switch to Mozilla
or one of its derivatives (such as current versions of Netscape).
Below is a partial list of standards-compliant browsers that can be used to
display this site:
- Mozilla
- An open source web browser, Mozilla is available for Windows, MacOS, BeOS,
Linux and other UNIX variants. It is also the basis for the commercial Netscape
browser.
- Netscape
7.0
- Based on the open source Mozilla codebase, Netscape 7.0 is a
commercial browser available for Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
- Opera
- Opera is a popular commercial browser available for Windows, Linux, MacOS,
SymbianOS, BeOS, QNX, and OS/2.
- Internet Explorer
- While not quite standards-compliant, Microsoft's browser will display most
HTML specification-compliant code correctly. IE 6 is available for Windows
platforms. Earlier versions are available for MacOS and some commercial Unices.
- Chimera
- Chimera is a Mozilla-based browser for MacOS.
- Konqueror
- Konqueror is an open source web browser and file manager for UNIX.
- Lynks
- Lynx is a text-only browser available for many different platforms.
