Ten years ago, the Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows was given a home located at 435 Egan Street in Shreveport, LA. It was in deplorable condition and took the sisters and volunteers approximately eighteen months to renovate and refurbish to facility. During this process, one thing became clear - the children living in this area needed a safe and constructive place to learn and play. Therefore, the Renzi Education and Art Center was founded, with the help of Donna Service, as an outreach program for the children living in the Highland neighborhood and surrounding ares of Shreveport. Since that time, the program has grown to include an additional facility in order to keep up with the demand for services.
Our facility consists of two houses located next to each other connected by a walkway decorated by Renzi students. The blue house is our academic house where students can take various educational and music classes as well as receive tutoring. The brown house serves as an office and as art classrooms and studios
The Renzi Center has won the Time-Warner Cable Grand Prize, the Nick Worldwide Day of Play Contest (2004), and the Constellation Award from Harrah's (2005). Renzi films have take first place in the Middle School and Elementary divisions in 2006 at the Louisiana Film Festival - Student Division.
